Dr. Edgardo S. Barcelona, M.D., F.A.C.S

        Dr. Ed who hails from Fernando Air Base, Lipa City, was one of the first to graduate De La Salle Lipa high school in year 1964. He has his Pre Med course in 1968 and entered University of the Philippines in 1972 for his medicine proper.

 

        He became a resident surgeon at Philippine General Hospital from 1972-75. He then succeeded to have a US Internship at the Detroit – Macomb Hospital and later on become a resident of Palmdale, California, U.S.A.

 

        He received various awards;

 

        In 1977 he won 2nd prize for his scientific paper entitled “Acute Appendicitis in Children”.

 

        In 2000, he was awarded as Outstanding Physician of the Year of High Desert Medical Group.

 

        Under his leadership, Society of Philippine Surgeons in America (SPSA) reaped an award from the Philippine Government.  They received prestigious Lingkod sa Kapwa Pilipino (Linkapil) Award on December 7, 2006 at the Malacañang Palace.

 

        He served as President of SPSA from 2005 to 2006.  In 2004, Ed and the SPSA team performed surgical procedures in Kalibo, Aklan.  This was followed in 2005 with a mission to Puerto Princesa, Palawan; 2006 Calbayog City, Samar; and December 2007 - Legaspi City, Albay).

 

        With fervent desire to help the less fortunate parents who could not afford to send their children to school, Dr. Ed was instrumental in the successful creation of Br. Stephen Rabisa FSC Gift of Education Foundation.

 

        He has numerous affiliations since 1987 up to present in various medical society and hospitals in US. Became Chief of Surgery, Member of Executive Council, Chief Resident, Chief of Medical Staff, Resident, Fellow, Diplomate and Instructor 

 

        His postgraduate studies and training includes Fellowship, Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, White Memorial Hospital, Los Angeles, CA, June 1987, General Surgery Residency at St. John Hospital, Detroit, MI and Internship at Detroit-Macomb Hospital, Detroit, MI
